CBD oil: Does CBD oil really work?

Written by Shared Content

CBD has been used by about six million adults in the UK, and the CBD market value is expected to be worth nearly £1billion by 2025. So what is CBD oil, and is it worth the fuss?

CBD is the new trendy wellness product that celebs, bloggers, your friends, and your next-door neighbour are telling you to buy. CBD comes from the cannabis plant, but don’t worry it is legal! The oil is used to manage a number of health conditions and ailments – from anxiety to heart disease – but it undeniably has its sceptics. Express.co.uk chatted to Phoebe White, Marketing Manager at CBII, to find out the ins and outs of CBD oil.

CBII is a range of premium quality, legally sourced, full-spectrum CBD products.

Unlike many other CBD brands, CBII is a full spectrum CBD oil, meaning it contains terpenes and cannabinoids that result in a high-quality CBD oil.

Sourced from the Cannabis sativa L. plant, the brand’s vast collection of products have been crafted to help you “restore balance and rediscover the confidence from within”.

To top it all off, CBII products come in recyclable packaging and are third-party tested, GMO-free, and legally sourced.

What is CBD?

Phoebe explained: “CBD stands for cannabidiol, a non-psychoactive compound found in the Cannabis sativa L. plant, otherwise known as hemp.

“CBD is found in larger amounts in the Cannabis sativa L. species.

“Unlike THC, CBD is non-psychoactive, so it may not impact cognitive function.

“These days CBD can be found in everything from oils, capsules and topicals, to teas, gummies and skincare.”

Does CBD get you high?

Although CBD comes from the cannabis plant, it doesn’t have the same impact as using marijuana, which is an illegal Class B drug.

Phoebe said: “There are different types of cannabis plants that have differencing amounts of THC and CBD.

“THC stands for tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive compound found in certain species of cannabis plants.

“It produces the euphoric or high effects associated with marijuana consumption.

“Marijuana or Cannabis indica L. contains high amounts of THC and lower amounts of CBD, whereas Cannabis sativa L.contains lower amount of THC and high amounts of CBD.

“We only use the Cannabis sativa species in our products so as to ensure out less than 0.2 percent THC content.”

What is CBD good for?

Pain relief

CBD is renowned for its pain-relieving effects.

Our bodies contain a specialised system called the endocannabinoid system, which regulates a range of functions.

This includes sleep, appetite, immune system, and pain, just to name a few.

A number of studies have shown CBD may impact endocannabinoid receptor activity.

This would reduce inflammation and nerve pain.

They have also found CBD to be effective in treating pain related to multiple sclerosis and arthritis.

Improving mental health

The World Health Organization has recognised that CBD may have the potential to help health issues such as anxiety and insomnia.

Although anxiety and depression are normally treated with pharmaceutical drugs, these can have a number of negative impacts, including headaches and insomnia.

Studies have found CBD to be a promising alternative, reducing anxiety and regulating mood and social behaviour by acting on the brain’s receptors for serotonin.

However, there haven’t been enough studies to conclusively say CBD is 100 percent effective.

Phoebe added: “Though there is a lot of information online about the usage of CBD the science is still in its early stages.

“We still have a lot of work in understanding what CBD does in the body.

“We have received some positive feedback from consumers using our products for their health and wellbeing.”

How do you use CBD oil?

Using CBD oil is a quick and easy process, so it doesn’t require much effort to incorporate it into your self-care routine.

Phoebe advised: “The way to use CBD oil is to take the recommended number of drops under the tongue, leave it there for approximately 30 seconds and then swallow.

“Depending on how CBD oil fits in your daily routine you may want to take it alongside a glass of water in the morning or before bed.

“You could even have it with a post-workout recovery snack, or added to a smoothie.”

How often should you use it CBD?

How regularly you take CBD depends on the form of CBD you use.

Phoebe suggested: “For the CBD oil you may take this at different times in the day within the daily dosage recommendation.

“For CBD capsules, on the other hand, you would take one capsule up to two or three times a day depending on the product.

“It’s important when taking CBD that you continue taking it daily for a few months as consistency is the key. ”
