The Silver Lining in the Golden Oil: CBD for Seniors

Written by admin

The 55-and-older crowd is now the fastest-growing demographic of cannabis users in the country. And why not? CBD can address many of the ailments that this age group is prone to. The neuroprotective qualities CBD imbues on the brain also make it an ideal preventative therapy for this age group, who are most at risk for developing serious neurodegenerative conditions. Its analgesic qualities, thought to be modulated through interactions with the CB1 and CB2 endocannabinoid receptors, make it an excellent alternative to opioids for pain reduction. Recent findings suggest arthritic patients display more CB2 receptors in their joints. When CBD was introduced orally, it interacted with those receptors, promoting analgesia in the affected area. CBD also has anxiolytic and anti-depressant effects, which combat anxiety and depression many seniors suffer from as a result of the life changes accompanying growing older. A general review of why more and more seniors are choosing CBD will ensue, followed by specific conditions which CBD can help treat and potentially cure. Can CBD interact or interfere with any medications I’m currently on? Should I discuss CBD use with my primary care doctor? What is the best way for seniors to take CBD? What dosages are recommended for those starting off?
