There’s been some confusion around the exact nature of CBD tinctures and CBD vape oil and the consumption options they come with, especially around the former. Its important to clear it up as consuming even the best product the wrong way often defeats the whole purpose.
What exactly are CBD Tinctures and CBD Vape Oil?
Clearing the air starts with clearly defined notions of CBD tinctures and CBD vape oil.
CBD tinctures refers to liquid CBD oil products, designed to be consumed by mouth, or in other words, ingested. In short, CBD tinctures and CBD oil are interchangeable terms.
CBD vape oils, on the other hand, are designed specifically to be vaporized. What this means is CBD vape oil is more than just pure CBD extract in an oily form. CBD vape oils have to be cut with a thinning agent in order for vaporizing to become possible as their “original” form is otherwise too thick or viscous to flow through a vape pen.
Those thinning agents are generally considered safe for the most part, although there have been some traces of stigma around them.
Can You Vape CBD Tinctures?
In short, no.
The confusion around this question stems from CBD vape oils being suitable for oral consumption as well as their ingredients, including the thinning agents, are considered safe and non-toxic. That doesn’t go to say they should be ingested this way since that’s not the optimal way to consume them.
However, even though vaping CBD tinctures might not be toxicin most cases, doing so is far worse than ingesting CBD vape oils.
First, they are not cut with the necessary thinning agents like CBD vape oils are, and most likely won’t burn well.
Second, even if tinctures taste nice when ingested, they will most likely have a foul taste when heated up and vaporized.
Third, because tinctures are not designed to be vaped, they can start burning more easily, which in turn produces toxic smoke which defeats the whole purpose of vaping in the first place.
Lastly, some tinctures have an alcohol base. Not only is inhaling alcohol highly unadvisable, which may or may not happen, but there’s a slight risk of the tincture catching fire. Better safe than sorry.
Even if you get away with vaping CBD tinctures, that is neither their purpose nor optimal use, not to mention it can be hazardous to your health.
